The Other Side of the File: The Rage Pattern

Read the lines below. Then read what the pattern file says to do.

Every line below was typed by someone on the other side of The Rage Pattern. You are reading what they asked about a person in their life.

They are quoted word for word from public questions. None was written for this page, and nothing was added to them.

If anyone at home is afraid of you, or you are afraid of what you might do, stop reading and call now.

If you are the one afraid of somebody's anger, call too. Your safety comes before any reading.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788. Confidential, around the clock, and they talk about safety planning as well as leaving.

Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline. Call or text 1-800-422-4453, staffed around the clock. It is used by parents ringing about themselves, and you can ring for advice without making an allegation.

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call or text 988, any hour. Confidential, and not only for the worst version of a night.

    Emergency services: 911.

Calling for advice about your own anger is allowed. It is not an admission of anything.

These lines are confidential. The letter will still be here afterward.

    1. If your partner gets very angry with you about small things, what does this mean?
    2. Why does every little thing I do make my husband angry?
    3. My boyfriend tends to get upset over small things, but he claims that they are important things to him. Why?
    4. Why does my wife become angry to small things?
    5. Why do some people get really angry at little things? My husband is like this sometimes, and it makes me sad.
    6. Why is my husband now getting mad at the smallest things even though before we were together he was never moody or angry about anything small?
    7. My best friend gets angry with me over smallest things. I'm getting tired of it. What should I do?
    8. What are some ways to deal with a family member that gets angry easily and often over small things?

Each line below is a public question a real person typed, quoted word for word. The Archivist chose and ordered them and wrote nothing inside them.

If this pattern is yours, these are the people it reaches. The way back starts in your own body, not in their questions.

Catch the body signal, the one thing you feel in your body as the pattern starts. Intercept the usual response and choose a different action. Rewrite by repeating that action until it is easier to reach.

Assembled by The Archivist from the record.
