Scenes, not symptoms

People who catch themselves repeating a behavior mostly do not describe it in clinical language. They describe a scene instead: a concrete moment they lived.

The corpus is the collection of phrasings this report is built on. It holds the words people use about their own repeating behavior.

One note before the numbers. No number here counts searches, people, or how often anything was typed. Each one counts phrasings: the words recorded in the corpus, on public record or built from it.

According to The Archivist Method's 2026 report, scenes outnumber clinical and category labels 1.8 to 1. That is 1,107 scene phrasings against 619 label phrasings. The corpus behind that count holds 2,837 mechanically counted phrasings. Each phrasing is sorted by the group it was filed under when it was mined.

The label is what a person reaches for after the scene has already happened.

Maybe you tried to look up what is wrong and could not name it. This is why. The thing you know is not a term. It is a scene. The letter still on the side. The message you read and did not answer.

The scene is not a failure to use the right word. The scene is the more accurate report. This whole report, and the archive behind it, is built to be found by the scene.
