BetterHelp, and the days between sessions

If you already see a therapist, talk to them before you add anything. Then read what the service does well.

BetterHelp connects people with a licensed therapist. A pattern fires in the seconds between one session and the next.

THE APP, IN ITS OWN WORDS

    • It matches you with a licensed therapist based on your needs and where you live.
    • You can send your therapist a message at any time.
    • You can book live video or phone sessions each week.

Checked on 2026-10-10 from the app's own pages: its home page and its App Store listing. Apps change. Read their pages for what is true today. We list no prices.

BetterHelp connects people with a licensed therapist. You write to them, and you meet by video or phone.

The Archivist Method is not therapy, and this page is not advice about your care. It covers what the service does well, where its scope ends, and what to add.

    What it is good for

It puts a trained person within reach. You do not have to travel, and you can write between sessions.

Its therapists are licensed and have years of hands-on work behind them. A trained person who knows your history is worth a great deal.

If you have that kind of help, keep it. Nothing on this page argues against it.

    Where it stops

This is a question of scope, not a ranking. A session happens at a set time, often once a week.

A pattern fires in seconds, on the days in between. In a session, you plan to answer a friend. On Thursday the phone lights up, and you leave it unread.

Nobody else can stand in that moment with you. The few seconds before the old response belong to you.

    What to try alongside it

Behavioral Interception is the practice of catching an automatic pattern as it begins, intercepting its usual response, and practicing a different action until it becomes more natural.

It starts small. Feel the body signal, like a drop in the stomach as the phone lights up. Name the pattern to yourself.

Then do one different action you picked ahead of time. Answer with one short line, even if it is only hello.

If you already see a therapist

Talk it over with your therapist before you add anything. They know you, and this page does not.

If they say not now, listen to them. Nothing here is a reason to stop or change your care.

If they agree, keep a short note. Each time the pattern runs, write where you felt it and what you did next.

A few of those lines show your therapist the days between sessions. What you do with them is for the two of you.

The free Crash Course, short lessons on your pattern, starts by naming it.
