A real choice has a pause in it. You check your sleep, your plans, your body. Then you decide.

A pattern skips the pause. The yes is out while the charge nurse is still talking. The cost shows up later, in the car, as a quiet argument with nobody.

The Draining Bond is the name for staying in something that takes more than it gives. You may know it from a person, and it can run with a workplace too.

Saying no can feel like leaving patients alone. It can feel like leaving your team short. Both of those are real, and the pattern uses them.

Behavioral Interception is the practice of catching an automatic pattern as it begins, intercepting its usual response, and practicing a different action until it becomes more natural.

Start with the body signal, the tight chest or jump of guilt as the phone lights up. Feel it and name the pattern.

Then say one line: let me check and call you back in ten minutes. That line is the different action. In those ten minutes, you get to decide.

You may still say yes. The point is that you said it, and the pattern did not.
