Letting a bad feeling be went with feeling better later
Read the verdict first. Then read what accepting a feeling meant in these studies.
People who let hard feelings be felt less bad under stress. They also did better months later.
THE CLAIM
“Fighting off bad feelings keeps you happier.”
THE VERDICT
FALSE. Accepting hard feelings, not fighting them, went with feeling better later.

We read the abstract. Open the paper
Many people push bad feelings away fast. They think the less they feel it, the better off they are.
This page checks that idea against one paper, read in abstract. It did not look at The Archivist Method.
What people believe
The idea is that a bad feeling is a problem to fix. Fight it off, and you stay happy.
What the studies did
The authors looked at acceptance. Here it means letting feelings and thoughts be, without judging them.
One study surveyed about a thousand people. One gave people a stressful task in a lab. One followed people for six months.
What they found
People who tended to accept their feelings reported better well-being and more life satisfaction.
Under stress, they felt less bad. Good feelings did not change. Over six months, feeling less bad day to day linked acceptance to doing better.
The authors say acceptance keeps people from reacting to a hard feeling, which would make it worse.
What they do not show
These are links, not proof of cause. The helpful part was accepting feelings, not accepting a bad situation.
The studies did not test The Archivist Method.
What actually changes a pattern
The Perfectionism Trap is when the work never feels good enough, so you reopen it. Often the reopening is a fight with a bad feeling.
Behavioral Interception is the practice of catching an automatic pattern as it begins, intercepting its usual response, and practicing a different action until it becomes more natural.
Start with the body signal, like a tight jaw as the not-good-enough feeling rises. Catch it and name the pattern. Let the feeling stay, and send the work.
The free Crash Course, short lessons on your pattern, starts by naming it.
