Going back to study is not a pattern and finding it hard at thirty-eight is not a sequence. Fitting it around work and a family is genuinely difficult and most of what is hard about it is logistics.
A submission date is a verdict, scheduled. That is the specific thing this window supplies, and it is the reason a person who is competent everywhere else is three weeks behind in week four.
Nothing else in adult life delivers assessment on a schedule, in writing, by strangers, over and over.
Why an assignment is different from work
Because at work the output is a task and here the output is you. A mark is a number attached to your ability by somebody whose job is to make that judgment, and there is no way to frame it as being about the project.
And it repeats. A career gives you a review once a year. A course gives you eleven of them in eight months.
What it looks like from inside
Six weeks of reading and no writing. A first paragraph rewritten eleven times. An extension requested for something that was ninety percent done. And all of it feels like conscientiousness, which is what makes it durable.
The tell is what happens after a good mark. If the next assignment is harder rather than easier, the mark was not reassurance, it was a raised position.
