    Success Sabotage

Read the finding first. The doors to the pattern's own file are at the bottom of the page.

Success Sabotage is the pattern of bringing a good thing back down. The corpus holds 206 phrasings about it. Six name jealousy or envy, and all six sit in one place: friendship. Two typed questions ask why a friend's success feels bad, even when that friend is kind.

The corpus is the collection of phrasings this report is built on. It holds the words people use about their own repeating behavior.

One note before the numbers. No number here counts searches, people, or how often anything was typed. Each one counts phrasings: the words recorded in the corpus, on public record or built from it.

According to The Archivist Method's 2026 report, its corpus holds 206 phrasings about Success Sabotage: 79 scenes, 46 labels and 81 plain questions. All 6 of its phrasings that name jealousy or envy sit in the friendship territory.

A scene is a moment: a room, an hour, a thing that happened. A label is a category word a person tries on. A plain question asks why, or how to stop.

A territory is one area of life the corpus maps.

A friend's good news raises the ceiling in the room. For someone running this pattern, a higher ceiling is not good news. It is a height to fall from.

The bad feeling is not a verdict on the friendship. It is the same pull that brings a person's own progress back down when somebody notices it.
