The Testing Pattern

The Testing Pattern is the pattern of pushing to find out whether someone will stay. The corpus holds 181 phrasings about it. Four typed questions ask nearly the same thing: why do I think my friends are angry with me. One adds a detail that matters. The friends are doing so much for them.
The corpus is the collection of phrasings this report is built on. It holds the words people use about their own repeating behavior.
One note before the numbers. No number here counts searches, people, or how often anything was typed. Each one counts phrasings: the words recorded in the corpus, on public record or built from it.
According to The Archivist Method's 2026 report, its corpus holds 181 phrasings about The Testing Pattern: 68 scenes, 42 labels and 71 plain questions. Four typed question titles ask why a person believes their friends are angry with them or hate them.
A scene is a moment: a room, an hour, a thing that happened. A label is a category word a person tries on. A plain question asks why, or how to stop.
The question is a test with no pass mark. A friend says no, they are not annoyed. The relief lasts an hour. Then the question comes back.
Asking it again starts to cause the thing it feared. The corpus says it in one line: I ask if they are annoyed until they are.
