Long-distance relationships and the loyalty test

Read why distance feeds the tests first. Then try the plain ask at the end.

Distance takes away the everyday signs of love, and a test tries to get them back.

Distance leaves plenty of room for guessing. You cannot see their face after a late reply. So you start setting small tests.

A slow reply, to see if they chase. A question with a right answer only you know. This page is about those tests.

    Why distance feeds it

Up close, you get signs without asking. A hand on your back. A look across the room. Far apart, most of that is gone.

So the mind fills the gap with questions. The tests try to win back what distance took away.

    The pattern underneath

The Testing Pattern is the name for pushing someone to see if they will stay. You may know it by how short the relief lasts after they pass.

That is the tell. A passed test does not settle anything. By next week, you need another one.

Some tests can end things on their own, like a fake account sent to flirt. The person who finds one rarely sees a question in it.

    What to try instead

Behavioral Interception is the practice of catching an automatic pattern as it begins, intercepting its usual response, and practicing a different action until it becomes more natural.

Start with the body signal, the drop in your stomach while you wait for a reply. Feel it and name the pattern.

Then take a different action. Ask in plain words: I miss you, and I need to hear from you more.

A plain ask can get a plain answer. A test can only get a score.

The free Crash Course, short lessons on your pattern, starts by naming it.
