The client sits down and starts talking. Forty minutes later, you know about her marriage, her boss and her son. Then the next client sits down.

Why the chair makes it hard
Clients talk to the mirror, and the mirror always seems to listen. It is easy to say more to someone behind you.
You also cannot leave. Your hands are busy, the time is booked, and the client is paying. Changing the subject can feel like bad service.
The pattern underneath
The Draining Bond is the name for staying with what takes more than it gives back. You may know it from a friend, and it can run with a whole book of clients.
The tell is in you, not in them. A certain name on the book brings a tired drop in your chest. Then you ask one more question anyway.
One thing to try at the chair
Behavioral Interception is the practice of catching an automatic pattern as it begins, intercepting its usual response, and practicing a different action until it becomes more natural.
Start with the body signal, the heavy chest as the story starts again. Feel it and name the pattern.
Then take a different action: a kind turn back to the hair. That sounds hard. Let me show you the color for a minute.
You can still be warm. Warm and endless are not the same thing.
