Is it normal to be drawn to the wrong people?

    PATTERN: Attraction to Harm

Being drawn to difficult people is common. So common that the answer to the heading is yes, and the yes will not stop you doing it again with somebody you have not met yet.

Normal is a fact about a population. You are asking about a series of choices that you made and that keep resembling each other.

What common does and does not tell you

It tells you the experience is ordinary, which matters, because people arrive at this question having concluded there is something wrong with their taste in a way that reflects on them.

What it cannot tell you is whether yours is a run of bad luck or a selection. Those are different things with different answers, and only one of them has anything you can do about it.

Why normal is the wrong question here

Because the word people reach for next is attracting, and attracting is the wrong verb. Nothing is arriving. Nothing is being drawn toward you by a quality you have.

A selection is happening, and a selection has a moment in it. That is the whole reason this is workable, and it is the reason the archive is uninterested in whether the experience is common.

What the pull is actually made of

Recognition rather than assessment. The lift you feel reports that something is familiar, not that it is good, and a nervous system trained on certain conditions will produce a strong signal when it meets them again.

Which explains the part people find hardest to believe about themselves. The charge often arrives on the exact sentence that should have been a warning, and most people can name the sentence afterward if they are asked within a day.

The reverse reading is just as diagnostic and gets ignored because it is undramatic. Steady people register as nothing. That flatness is the same instrument reporting the other end of its range, and it is information about the instrument rather than about them.

Is this bad luck, or is this a pattern running?

Bad luck does not repeat across independent situations. One difficult person is an event. Three, met in different places, chosen from a field that included steady options you passed over, is a selection.

Nothing in that says anybody's behavior toward you was your fault. What it says is that the choosing had a moment in it, and the moment is the only part that was ever available to you.

If that reads as accurate, the file below has the marker, the window, and what to do with a flat reading. Free and in full.

    THE FILE

One file, written in the second person, about your own body. Free to read in full.

    • Attraction to Harm

A pull toward familiar conditions, read as chemistry, and the lift that arrives before the reasoning.

Why am I attracted to people who hurt me?

    Questions people ask about this

Is it normal to be drawn to the wrong people?

Yes, in the only sense the word has: a great many people report it. That settles nothing, because you are not asking about a population, you are asking about a series of choices that keep resembling each other.

Why do I keep attracting the same kind of person?

Attracting is the wrong verb. Nothing is arriving and nothing is being drawn toward you by a quality you have. A selection is happening, and a selection has a moment in it, which is the only reason any of this is workable.

What does the pull actually feel like?

A lift, a charge in the chest, a sense of being switched on. It arrives three to seven seconds before the reasoning that will justify it, and often on the exact sentence that should have been a warning.

Why do kind people feel boring?

Because steady produces no signal, and an instrument built to read signal reports an absence. The flatness is information about the instrument rather than about the person, which is why it changes with repetition.

    Is this my fault?

No. Nothing here says anybody's behavior toward you was caused by you. It says the choosing had a moment in it, and the moment is the only part that was ever available to you.

    Is it just bad luck?

One difficult person is an event. Three, met in different places, chosen over steady options you passed over, is a selection. Selections repeat across independent situations and events do not.

Why did I ignore the warning?

You did not ignore it. It produced the lift. That is the part almost nobody believes afterward, which is why writing down the sentence within a day matters more than reconstructing the decision.

    Is this a diagnosis?

No. This archive makes no clinical claims and does not diagnose anybody. It describes an observed sequence with a marker and a timing, and clinical questions belong with a clinician.

    Can this change?

Yes, and the mechanism is repetition rather than resolve. Enough repetitions of sitting with a flat reading without acting on it, and the body begins to register calm as safety rather than as absence.

What do I do at the moment of choosing?

Name the lift out loud as recognition rather than assessment, then delay. Write down the sentence that produced the charge, word for word, before tomorrow. The full mechanism is on the file below, free.
