What do I do when I get ghosted?

Send one plain message or none. Then read the section on what is in your control before you send anything else.

WRITTEN FOR THE PERSON STANDING NEXT TO IT

The last message was yours, and warm. Then nothing. No reply, no unfollow, no explanation. A person who was in your week is now a read receipt, or not even that.

This page will not tell you what they are. Nobody here has met them. It will tell you what a silence like this usually is, what it is not, and what to do with your own side of it. Read the control section before you send anything else.

    What you are actually seeing

Look at where it stopped, not at what you said. It rarely stops in the middle of a bad exchange. It stops after a good one. The plan was being made, or the best conversation so far had just ended, and then the thread went flat.

That timing is the most useful thing you have. A person who was bored drifts. A person who was put off says less and less. A thread that dies at its warmest point is a different shape, and it is the shape this page is about.

You have reread the messages for the mistake. You have not found it, because the silence is not an answer to anything in them.

Why would someone go quiet instead of just saying so?

This page cannot say what is inside them. It can say what the shape looks like from outside, and the shape is a pull away that fires on closeness.

For some people, a thing going well reads as exposure. The closer it gets, the more there is to lose, and the body answers by making distance before any decision is made. The reply they owe you gets heavier every hour it waits. By day three the honest message costs more than the silence, so the silence pays for itself.

That is a mechanism, not a character. It says nothing about whether they liked you. Often it says they did.

You keep asking what you did. The silence keeps answering a question you did not ask.

    What this is not about

It is not about your last message. You have checked it twelve times. It was fine.

It is not a test you can pass with a better text. There is no sentence that opens a door somebody closed from the inside.

And it is not yours to end. The pull away starts a few seconds before they choose it, in a body you are not in. No message reaches those seconds.

    What happens in your body

Watch what happens in you when the phone lights up and it is somebody else. A drop in the stomach. A flush of heat. A pull to open the thread and draft one more line, just to check.

    [MECHANISM]

That drop is the body signal, the first thing you feel as your own pattern starts. It arrives a few seconds before you act.

What follows is your usual response. The second message. The third. The casual story posted for them to see. The friend sent to ask.

Each of those is a move in a sequence you can watch. Theirs runs in their body. This one runs in yours.

    What is in your control

Send one plain message, or none. One is a real door. It sounds like: I enjoyed this. If you want to pick it up, I am here. Then put the phone down.

Do not send the second one. The second message is not a door. It is pressure, and pressure feeds a pull away.

Do not go to where they live or work, and do not reach them through other people. That is not a door either. It is the one thing on this page that is a rule rather than advice.

Stop the audit. Rereading the thread for the error is a search with no result in it. Close it. Keep your week. Make the plan you were going to cancel.

    What it is costing you

Check what has changed in you. Whether you draft messages and delete them. Whether you have gone quieter with the next person, so there is less to lose. Whether a slow reply from anybody now reads as the start of this.

Each of those is a pattern with its own file. The late-night message in particular has a body signal you can catch: the drop in the stomach, a few seconds before you type.

That is the part with a door in it. The person who stops running their own pattern changes what the next thread is like.

What do I do when I get ghosted?

Send one plain message or none, and then stop. Do not send a second. Do not post for them, and do not route a question through a friend. Close the thread instead of rereading it. Then watch your own body over the next week, because the pull to check is the part of this you can actually reach. Everything else is in a body you are not in.

What do I do when a girl ghosts me?

The same thing, and one line is firmer here. Do not show up where she is. Do not message her friends, her work, or a second account. A silence is an answer even when it is a poor one, and the move that treats it as a puzzle to solve is the move that frightens people. One plain message, no second, and your week back. If you notice you cannot stop drafting, that is yours to catch, and it has a file.

What do I say when a man ghosts me?

Say one thing, once, and make it plain. I enjoyed this, and if you want to pick it up I am here. That is a door, not a demand. Do not ask what you did, because the silence is not an answer to anything you did. Do not write the long message that explains how it felt. He may read it or not, and either way it hands him the thread you were trying to put down.

What do I do when I get ghosted on a dating app?

Treat it as the same silence with less at stake. A thread that stopped after four days of messages was a thread, not a relationship, and the drop in your stomach does not know the difference. Send nothing, or one line. Unmatch if the open thread keeps pulling you back to check. The audit of your own profile for the error is the same search with no result in it. Keep swiping or stop, but do not keep reading that one.

What do I say when a guy apologizes for ghosting me?

Say what is true for you, plainly, and decide nothing in the first hour. Something like: Thank you for saying that. I am not sure yet what I want. An apology for a silence is real, and it is also a reopening, and your body will answer it before you do. Notice the lift in your chest and wait a day before you act on it. If you take it up again, say once that going quiet is not something you will live inside twice. Then watch what happens the next time things go well.

If this is you rather than them

Some people read this page for a person who went quiet and recognize the pull from the other side. The reply that got heavier every hour. The relief of not sending it.

If that just happened, the first-person file is The Disappearing Pattern, the pull to make distance when something starts to go well. It is written for you, about your own body, not anybody else's.

    THE FIRST-PERSON FILE

The shape described on this page is filed as The Disappearing Pattern. That file is written in the second person, for whoever is running it, about their own body. It is not a verdict about anybody else, and nobody can read it on someone else's behalf.

If this is you rather than them: Why do I push people away when they get close?

    Questions people ask about this

Why did they ghost me when things were going well?

This page cannot say what is inside them. What can be seen from outside is a shape: a thread that dies at its warmest point. That timing points at a pull away from closeness, not at anything you sent.

Should I send a follow-up message after being ghosted?

One, plain, or none. A single message is a door. A second one is pressure, and pressure feeds a pull away. Decide which you are sending before you open the thread.

    Did I do something wrong?

You have reread the messages for the mistake and not found it. That is because the silence is not an answer to anything in them. A pull away starts a few seconds before the person chooses it.

How long should I wait before I assume I have been ghosted?

Long enough that you have stopped checking, which is the only wait that is yours to set. A week with no reply to a plain message is an answer. Act on your own week, not on their timeline.

Is ghosting a sign they never liked me?

Not from this shape. Indifference drifts. A thread that stops at its best point is a different thing, and often it stops because it was going somewhere. That is a mechanism, not a verdict about you.

Should I call them out for ghosting?

You can say once that you noticed and that you would have preferred a sentence. Say it plainly and do not wait for the reply. The long message about how it felt hands them the thread you were putting down.

Why do I keep checking my phone after being ghosted?

Because the check has a payout, even when it is bad news. The drop in your stomach a few seconds before you look is the body signal, the thing you feel as your own pattern starts. That is the place a different action gets chosen.

What should I do if they come back weeks later?

Decide nothing in the first hour. Say what is true for you, once. If you take it up, say plainly that going quiet is not something you will live inside twice, and then watch what happens the next time it goes well.

    Can someone who ghosts change?

The mechanism is interruptible, and the interruption happens in one body, theirs. This page makes no forecast about anyone. What is in reach is your own response to the silence.

Why does getting ghosted hurt more than a clear rejection?

Because a rejection closes a thread and a silence leaves it open. An open thread keeps your body on watch, checking, drafting, rereading. Closing it yourself is not giving up. It is ending the watch.

    THE ARCHIVES

You cannot open their file. You can open yours. The assessment names the pattern that has been running in you since the last message, and it costs nothing.
