Why am I so full of hate and anger?

If anyone is at risk, read the first section now. Otherwise, name the next replay as it starts.

PATTERN: The Rage Pattern  /  ARENA: SELF, BODY AND HEALTH

It is there before anyone does anything. A name comes up and your chest goes hot. A stranger walks too slowly and you hate them for it. You did not always carry this much. Now it seems to fill the room before you do.

This is The Rage Pattern, held as a level instead of spent in a burst. It is the pattern that fires too big for the thing in front of it. Hate is often anger that has been replayed until it has a target. Read the first section before anything else. Then read what to do when the heat comes up.

Is anyone at risk right now?

Ask this first, and answer it plainly. Hate that has a person in it can carry thoughts of hurting them. It can also turn inward.

If you have thought about hurting someone, or about hurting yourself, that comes before anything else on this page. Talk to a person today.

Asking is not an admission of anything. Pattern work is not a substitute for real help and it is not urgent enough to go first. It will still be here afterward.

Where does this much hate come from?

Mostly from the replay. Something happened and the anger was not spent or spoken. So it was stored. Then, at night, in the car, in the shower, you went back over it. You said what you should have said. You won the argument. Each time the heat came up again.

That replay is a rehearsal. Every time you run it, the old sequence gets one more repetition. The heat comes faster. The target gets clearer. After enough of them, the anger is no longer a reaction. It is a level, and it is waiting for a place to land.

You are not full of hate because of what they did. You are full of it because of how many times you have gone back.

What happens in my body when the hate comes up?

The usual report is heat rising through the chest. The jaw sets. The hands close. The breath gets short and high. Often a speech starts in your head, the one you would give them.

    [MECHANISM]

The cue, the first thing that sets it off, is small: a name, a face, a song, a slow driver.

Heat rises through the chest. It arrives three to seven seconds before the speech or the sharp word.

Then the thought: they deserve this. That thought feels like a judgment. It is the heat turned into a reason.

The replay brings relief, the feeling of being right. That relief is the reward, and it is why the level stays high.

The body signal is what you feel as the pattern starts. Here it is the heat in the chest. The window is the few seconds between that signal and the speech, out loud or in your head. Three to seven seconds is a working figure, not a measurement. It is where the different action goes.

What do I do when the heat comes up?

Not try to feel kinder. The feeling will not move on command. Insight does not change the sequence. Repeating the different action does.

Catch is to feel the body signal and name the pattern before it becomes the behavior. Here that means naming the heat when the name or face comes up. Intercept is to interrupt the usual response and choose a different action before the old pattern completes. The different action is to stop the replay and move the body.

    [INTERRUPTION SCRIPT]

    Quietly, to yourself:

Heat is up. This is not the size of the thing. I am not speaking yet.

Then leave the room for twenty minutes. Cold water on the wrists. Come back when the heat is gone.

    [FIELD ASSIGNMENT]

For one week, notice each time the replay starts. Name it: replay.

Stand up when you name it. Walk to another room, or outside.

Count the replays you stopped before the speech was finished. Each one is a full repetition.

Rewrite is to repeat the different action until it becomes easier to reach when the signal returns. A day the replay ran all the way, but you named it after, still counts. You are filing the day, not grading it.

Between moments, you can look at where this was learned, if you want to. SOURCE UNKNOWN is also a complete answer. The practice does not need the history.

Why am I so full of hate and anger?

Because anger that was never spent or spoken got stored, and the replay kept it warm. Each time you go back over what happened, the heat comes up again. Over time the anger stops being about one event. It becomes a level you carry. Notice the next replay as it starts, and name it before it runs.

Why am I so full of rage?

Because the level is already high, so the burst does not need much. Rage is the level spilling over. When the heat is sitting near the top all day, a small thing is enough. The window gets short, too. So start earlier: name the heat at the first sign, then leave the room for twenty minutes.

Why am I so full of hate?

Because hate is anger with a story attached, told many times. The story names someone and keeps the heat pointed at them. Each telling feels like being right. That feeling is the relief, and relief is what keeps the pattern running. Try counting how often the story plays in one day. The count shows how much rehearsal the hate is getting.

How do I get rid of hate and anger?

Not by deciding to stop feeling it. A feeling does not leave on request. You get rid of it by starving the sequence that feeds it. Stop the replay when it starts. Spend the heat in the body, by walking or moving, instead of in a speech. Then repeat that. The feeling follows the practice, slowly, not the other way round.

How do I let go of anger and hate towards someone?

You do not have to decide they were right. Letting go here means one thing: stop rehearsing what you would say to them. If there is something real to act on, act on it once, in daylight, with a calm head. Then stop going back. Each replay you interrupt is one less rehearsal of the old sequence.

I hate everyone, what do I do?

When it is everyone, it is the level, not the people. Start with the body. Check how you are sleeping, eating and moving, and how much you have held in lately. Then name the heat each time it comes up. If the hate turns toward yourself, or you think of hurting anyone, use the routes at the top of this page.

Is this who I am, or is this a pattern running?

Some of this may have a cause this page does not cover. If something in your body has changed, or you are not sleeping, or the heat comes with a low mood that does not lift, talk to a doctor. This page does not answer that.

Then check the other rooms. Does the same heat come up over small things at work, in the car, at dinner? Then the hate is not a separate thing. It is the same circuit, the sequence of steps from cue to behavior, running at a higher level. The file this page comes from describes it everywhere else.

This is not who you are. It is a pattern running. Those are different things, and the difference is the entire method.

    THE FULL FILE

This page is one room. The Rage Pattern is one of nine files in the archive and it runs in all of them, which is the fastest way to tell a pattern from a situation. The full file describes the same circuit outside this arena entirely.

    Questions people ask about this

Why do I keep replaying things that made me angry?

Because the replay brings relief, the feeling of being right. Relief is the reward, so the replay repeats. Each run keeps the heat warm and the level high.

Is hating someone the same as being angry at them?

On this page, hate is anger with a story attached, told many times. The heat is the same. The rehearsal is what turns it into hate.

Why does the hate come out at strangers?

Because the level is high and a stranger is in front of you. They did not raise the level. They were only the next thing to meet it.

What is the body signal for this?

Most often heat rising through the chest, with a set jaw and closed hands. It is what you feel as the pattern starts.

    What is the window?

The few seconds between the body signal and the speech, out loud or in your head. Three to seven seconds is a working figure, not a measurement.

What should I say when the hate comes up?

Quietly: heat is up, this is not the size of the thing, I am not speaking yet. Then leave the room for twenty minutes.

Should I tell the person how I feel?

Not while the heat is up. If something real needs saying, say it once, on a calm day, in a few plain words. Not in the middle of the replay.

What if I am afraid of what I might do?

Then this page is not the priority. Talk to a person today. The routes at the top of this page are open, and asking is not an admission of anything.

Do I need to know where this came from?

No. Looking at where it was learned is optional work between moments. SOURCE UNKNOWN is a complete answer. The practice works without it.

    Is this a clinical claim?

No. This archive makes no clinical claims and names nothing you have. It describes an observed sequence with a body signal and a timing. Clinical questions belong with a clinician.

    THE ARCHIVES

The same heat fires at work, in the car and over small things at home. If you want to know whether this is your primary pattern, the one that runs most often, the assessment names it.

The window is the gap between the first signal in your body and the behavior. Three to seven seconds is a working figure for that gap. It is drawn from what people report about their own sequences, not from a stopwatch in a laboratory. Some sequences run at the short end and some at the long, and the same person will find it varies. It is the scale you train toward after Catch. Catch is the first move: feel the body signal and name the pattern before it becomes the behavior. Your body is not obliged to keep to that number.
